Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip 8 at its Unpacked event in London this summer, and the clamshell foldable is now reaching buyers worldwide. It’s an evolution rather than a reinvention, but the upgrades address some of the biggest complaints people had about the previous Flip.
The outer cover display grows to 4.1 inches, up from the Flip 7, giving you more room to reply to messages, check notifications, and run quick apps without unfolding the phone. Open it up and you get a 6.9-inch main screen for everything else.
Inside, Samsung swapped in the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM and a choice of 256GB or 512GB of storage. The 4,300mAh battery capacity is unchanged from last year, but Samsung says its new silicon-carbon cell design and the more efficient chip should still translate into better real-world endurance, backed by 25W wired and 15W wireless charging.
The camera setup gets a boost too, with a 50-megapixel main sensor now joined by a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, plus a 10-megapixel selfie camera on the cover screen. Samsung also added a Camcorder Grip mode and Dual Recording, aimed squarely at people who film video on the go.
It ships with One UI 9 on top of Android, alongside the usual round of Galaxy AI features. If foldables have interested you but the crease and battery life held you back, the Z Flip 8 is worth a look — though it’s still a premium price for a phone that folds in half.
